Motorcycle Parts Maintenance

By performing certain maintenance tasks on your motorcycle yourself, you can minimize the need to visit a repair shop, save yourself valuable time, and enhance your understanding of motorcycles. This way, you can avoid the hassle of dealing with repair appointments and gain valuable knowledge about caring for your bike.

Spark plug maintenance

Motorcycle engines rely heavily on spark plugs to function properly. The combustion process is crucial to ensure the engine is running smoothly. It's important to use a spark plug that matches the engine's specifications, including factors such as calorific value and thread size. If the engine is functioning normally, the electrode should be ochre red when you remove the spark plug. However, if there is black carbon deposition, it's an indication that the mixture is too rich and not burning sufficiently. In this case, clean the carbon deposits with a sharp cone and adjust the spark plug gap to restore proper combustion. Carbon deposits on the spark plug can prevent strong sparks and potentially cause misfires. If the spark plug is frequently wet or burnt to gray, it's a sign that the heat value of the spark plug doesn't match the engine's needs. Visit a designated Qingqi Suzuki repair shop to find the appropriate spark plug replacement. Remember to always follow the manufacturer's guidelines and specifications when maintaining your motorcycle engine.

To prevent damage to your engine, it is essential to determine the correct thread size and plug stem length for your spark plug. Using a plug rod that is too short can result in carbon buildup on the threads of the plug hole, leading to potential engine damage. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that the plug stem length is correct for your engine to function correctly.

To avoid causing any damage, it's important to screw the spark plug into the threaded section of the cylinder head manually before using the spark plug wrench. Make sure to be careful and take your time while doing this.

To achieve the specified tightening torque, use the special vehicle-mounted tool's spark plug sleeve to securely fasten the spark plug. It is important to tighten the spark plug properly to ensure accurate torque application.

Air filter maintenance

The motorcycle's air filter plays a crucial role in its breathing system. When the air filter becomes clogged with dust, it creates resistance to the airflow, resulting in a decrease in engine power output, increased fuel consumption, and difficulties in starting and maintaining engine performance. Moreover, excessive dust can even find its way into the cylinder block, leading to accelerated wear and tear of engine components. To tackle this issue effectively, follow the steps outlined below for proper air filter cleaning.

Remove the air filter element from the vehicle;

If the filter element is a sponge foam, it is essential to clean it carefully using a neutral detergent. Avoid twisting it too hard and make sure to dry it thoroughly after cleaning. To improve its effectiveness in trapping very fine dust particles from the air, apply 2-3 drops of oil. Hold the sponge foam evenly in your hand and reinstall it in the same position. On the other hand, if the filter element is made of paper, it should never be cleaned with any liquid solution. Instead, you can vigorously tap it to remove the internal dust. If possible, you can use compressed gas to blow air in the opposite direction of the air intake. Be cautious not to blow the dust into the pores of the paper core, as this can lead to blockage. For instance, when dealing with a paper core in QS150T, blow air from the inside to the outside, while in the case of the storm prince, blow air from the outer ring towards the middle hole.

When you are changing the filter element in your device, it is very important that you take note of the correct installation direction and the air intake direction. Failure to do so could lead to incorrect filtration performance, and may also cause damage to your equipment. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully when replacing filter elements.

To maintain the engine's performance in dusty and dirty surroundings, it is crucial to increase the frequency of cleaning. If the sponge is damaged or the paper filter element becomes soaked, prompt replacement with a new one is necessary. Failure to do so may result in engine damage or the emission of black smoke.

Maintenance of oil filter

It is common knowledge among most vehicle users that timely oil changes are essential. However, understanding the principle behind it is crucial.

Replacing the engine oil is a routine maintenance task that ensures proper lubrication of the internal components. The oil pump circulates the new oil from the bottom tank through the oil filter element, which removes contaminants and impurities. The filtered oil is then sent to the cylinder head, crankshaft, and transmission parts, providing a protective barrier between metal surfaces and reducing friction. However, failing to replace the filter element can compromise the oil filtration, leading to reduced oil flow and inadequate lubrication. This can cause excessive wear and tear on the engine components, leading to potential damage and costly repairs. Regular maintenance, including oil changes and filter replacement, help keep the engine running smoothly and prolong its lifespan.
